Parkwood Baptist Missions

Parkwood is a mission minded church! Our members continue to step “out” of our church walls by volunteering to assist with local, national and international missions and ministries. Parkwood financially supports a variety of missions, ministries and missionaries through cooperative giving via the BGAV, designated contributions and the annual missions budget. Many of the mission efforts Parkwood has been involved with during the last couple of years are listed below in alphabetic order.

“Alma Hunt” Offering for Virginia Missions
This offering makes possible special ministries, outreach projects, and initiatives that are not funded through regular streams of giving but are uniquely connected to Virginia Baptists.

Asia Mission
Somewhere in Asia there are missionaries with the International Mission Board (IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention. One of the missionaries grew up here at Parkwood and felt the call early in her life to the mission field. They have left their lives here to live surrounded by people who don't know Jesus and they seek to make him known amongst them. In fact, for their security, they cannot identify exactly where they are. After several years in a place called "Steel City", they have recently moved to a city they call, "Sky Port." Together, they are dedicated to sharing the message of the Gospel with all who will listen, making disciples of Jesus for God's kingdom, and equipping more local leaders to do the same. Parkwood contributes financial support to their ministry each month.

Hot Meals
For many years, Parkwood has partnered with FACETS and a number of other local churches to prepare and serve a hot meal to the homeless people in our community. A hot dinner is delivered every evening, 365 days a year, in Fairfax City along the Route 50 corridor. Our turn is each fifth Tuesday, so we serve four or five times a year. We have two teams: a prep team which prepares the dinner and another team which delivers it, using the church van. Parkwood provides financial support to this ministry.

Kingdom Campus Ministries
We at Parkwood Baptist Church are partnering with other churches in the NorthStar Network under the umbrella of "Fusion Campus Ministries" to reach the college campuses of George Mason, Northern Virginia Community College, Marymount, and beyond. We seek to reach out to all young adults in the area in order to connect them with the local church, and help them in the process of becoming mature and ministering worshippers of God. We have weekly Bible studies, provide rides for college students to church on Sunday morning, and seek ways to have our students plug into the ministry of the local church to the community.

Native American Missionary…Rose Ignacio
Rose Ignacio is a full-blooded Navajo who serves as a North American Mission Board missionary. She has spent her whole life, living on the Navajo Reservation, in New Mexico. At her home, a trailer located next to Tinian Baptist Church in Cuba, NM, Rose lives modestly. She works seven days a week helping her people with the difficulties of reservation life. Alcoholism, broken homes and unemployment are common, but shared culture, tight family bonds and a pride in their heritage keep the Native Americans on the Reservation. Rose’s area has been called a “war zone” by some of the pastors in the New Mexico area. Many people live without electricity or running water. (Tinian itself was without water until the spring of 2011). The children often go to bed hungry and many families can’t afford clothing. And indeed, Rose is like a warrior, holding on tight through the battles so that someday she may win the war. At Tinian Baptist Church, she leads a weekly class for Navajo women and teenage girls, teaching them about Jesus and giving them cultural and language lessons with the goal that one day they will be able to speak and read their own Bible in their native Navajo. She gives them pride in their heritage and a way to connect to God. In addition, Rose spends many days driving miles, from house to house on the reservation, bringing donated clothes and food and serving in other ways. She teaches nursery school, cleans people’s houses, babysits children and runs a food closet. If there is a need, she finds a way to fulfill it. She is literally saving lives on the Reservation and she never, ever loses her faith. A faith she wants to share with her people. Rose believes that by helping others and building relationships, that one day they will be open when she speaks to them about the Lord. And if there is ever anyone who can uplift people and bring them to God, it’s Rose Ignacio. Parkwood contributes financial support to her ministry monthly.

In recent years, funds have been sent to a variety of places, such as orphanages in Guatemala and the Navajo reservation in New Mexico. We pray that you embrace this exciting opportunity as God works through us to touch the lives of our community, our nation, and our world! Wycliffe… Katherine and David Liddle
Wycliffe’s mission is to assist churches in making disciples of all nations through Bible translation.
David and Katherine work with Wycliffe's Europe office in Holzhausen, Germany, not far from Frankfurt. David helps support the networks and equipment in the many Wycliffe offices in Europe. He also helps extend services to people doing language work in Africa and western Asia who have no local computer staff. For six years, David provided computer help for Wycliffe and its partners in Dallas, Texas, diagnosing and repairing computer problems both on-site and in remote  parts of the world. Before that, David and Katherine were engaged in language survey work in Tanzania and Nigeria. This is a great example of how God uses gifts in all areas to do His Kingdom work. Parkwood contributes financially to support the Liddle’s ministry each month.
