{"id":398,"date":"2015-02-20T12:27:04","date_gmt":"2015-02-20T12:27:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/parkwood.dreamhosters.com\/blog\/?p=398"},"modified":"2015-03-03T18:40:42","modified_gmt":"2015-03-03T18:40:42","slug":"the-lord-is-my-shepherd-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/parkwood.dreamhosters.com\/blog\/the-lord-is-my-shepherd-3\/","title":{"rendered":"The Lord is my Shepherd (3)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>&#8216;The Lord is my Shepherd&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We have established this week that the Shepherd David is referring to is the Good Shepherd. Jesus revealed that He was the Good Shepherd in John chapter 10 when He said, &#8220;The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep&#8221;.\u00a0 So, Jesus not only claimed to be the Good Shepherd&#8230;He proved it by going to the cross for us&#8230;His sheep.<\/p>\n<p>Why use the a shepherd as a model for our relationship with God?\u00a0 What was David thinking?\u00a0 First, we are reminded that before David was a King or warrior he was a shepherd.\u00a0 We are first introduced to this young man when he was called in from the fields to meet with the Prophet Samuel.\u00a0 David knew what being a shepherd was all about.\u00a0 He knew the difference between a good one and a bad one as well.\u00a0 By the way, from what is written, David was a good shepherd.<\/p>\n<p>As you read through Psalm 23 today I would like to offer some additional characteristics that are common in a Good Shepherd that we find in Scripture.\u00a0 First, the Good Shepherd comes looking for His sheep.\u00a0 Luke 15 Jesus told the story of the shepherd who left the 99 sheep to go looking for the one that was lost.\u00a0 Jesus came to this world to &#8220;seek and save&#8221; those who are lost.\u00a0 He is the Good Shepherd.<\/p>\n<p>Second, a Good Shepherd calls to the sheep.\u00a0 Jesus said, &#8220;Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest&#8221; (Matt. 11:28).\u00a0 The sheep come and follow because they recognize His voice (John 10:4).<\/p>\n<p>Third, a Good Shepherd cares.\u00a0 <em>&#8220;God so loved the world&#8230;&#8221;<\/em> (John 3:16).\u00a0 <em>&#8220;When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd&#8221;<\/em> (Matt. 9:36).<\/p>\n<p>Oh yes, He is the Good Shepherd.\u00a0 Is He yours?\u00a0 If so, say it with David today.<\/p>\n<p>The Lord is my Shepherd!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;The Lord is my Shepherd&#8221; We have established this week that the Shepherd David is referring to is the Good Shepherd.
